I chose a commercial for Solo: A Star Wars Story because it is very nostalgic for many people who have been watching the Star Wars series for years as well as interesting for those who may have never seen one of the movies before. The author of the commercial is Lucas Films, a well known movie production company. The purpose of the commercial is to appeal to viewers and persuade them to go to the theater and watch the film. The audience of the commercial is Star Wars fans and people who may have never seen a Star Wars film before. The commercial establishes ethos with the Lucas Film logo and well known actors such as Woody Harrelson. The use of science and space travel establishes logos by using logic and physics to explain some of the science fiction aspects, such as the use of the control panels that run their aircraft. It also establishes ethos by appealing to fans of Star Wars with the use of familiar characters, such as Han Solo and Chewbacca, and the iconic Star Wars music when the movie title appears on the screen. Lastly, it establishes mythos by having a commercial similar to other Star Wars movie commercials, with the use of the recurring characters, music, aircraft, and similar clips of scenes from the movies. Some of these clips include a shot of the millennium falcon, Solo and Chewbacca together, or the movie title over a background of the galaxy, all of which have been seen before.
