Speech #2 Topic Proposal

     College roommates have a considerable amount of influence on each others lives. With sleeping schedules, chores, and study habits, roommates can impact each other in a number of ways. For this reason it is important that roommates get along well and have very minimal conflict. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and roommates may have a considerable amount of differences that make it difficult for them to live in the same dorm room.
     I propose that the University of Iowa brings back the use of the "Roomswap" system that allowed students in previous years to switch places with other students within the dorms on campus. The formerly used room swap system allowed students to switch places with each other within a specific time frame, which gave them the opportunity to switch rooms easily and early in the year. Although the university does have a waitlist system for the dorms, it is very slow and does not give students many opportunities to move out of their current placement.    
     This issue effects me directly because I have been trying to switch rooms since the second day of living with my current roommate. After a few weeks of waiting and being told by two resident assistants that the room swap system should be opening soon, I finally called University housing and dining only to be told that the room swap would never open because it was discontinued this year.

Introduction Nearly everyone uses cell phones and social media today, but does this make us more or less social than if we did not have them? On average people pick up their phone twenty eight times in a day, a third of which are for no particular reason, which can interrupt their interactions with others who are actually present (MacDonald, 2018).
