Speech #2

For the second writing assignment we need to choose a topic that we have some level of personal connection to and write a proposal for change. We need to explain a problem within the topic and then explain what we believe is the best way to address the problem. The speech should include a strong introduction, body, and conclusion to support the argument. We need to include three outside sources to support our proposal. We also need to include a one page description of our plan for our speech.

Questions:
1. Can our topic be something we are no longer actively involved in, but we used to be?
2. Should the sources be professional or unprofessional?

Introduction Nearly everyone uses cell phones and social media today, but does this make us more or less social than if we did not have them? On average people pick up their phone twenty eight times in a day, a third of which are for no particular reason, which can interrupt their interactions with others who are actually present (MacDonald, 2018). In addition, “87 percent of millennials admitted to missing out on a conversation because they were distracted by their phone” (Saiidi, 2015).
